Winter, the dolphin who starred in the "Dolphin Tale" films, died Thursday night following an illness, according to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter, 16, was being prepped for a procedure when her vital signs and behavior declined, the Florida aquarium wrote on its website.
She died about 8 p. Shelly Marquardt said in the statement. Marquardt said the aquarium worked with specialists and marine mammal experts from around the country but the dolphin, which was in critical condition and declining, died while being held by caregivers. The statement said the aquarium would remain closed on Friday to provide staff time to grieve. Winter previously experienced intestinal issues — not uncommon among dolphins — but such problems have never affected her like this, Powell had said Thursday.
But at the time, he said Winter was not responding to treatment as in the past, adding there was no evidence Winter had the coronavirus. She lost her tail after getting caught in a crab trap line and was given a prosthetic to use instead. She has been cared for by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium team ever since. After her tail had to be amputated, Winter figured out how to swim again by wiggling her body side to side, more like a shark. He worked with Dan Strzempka, the area clinic manager, to develop a prosthetic tail that Winter could use some of the time.
They each have their favorite cetaceans. The ads had them hooked and was reeling them in. My resistance was futile. I begrudgingly let them drag me to the local movie theater.
Is it based on a true story? In December , the Clearwater Marine Aquarium found a dolphin wrapped tightly in a crab trap line.
She was rescued from Mosquito Lagoon near Cape Canaveral and transported back to their facility. Unfortunately, the dolphin lost her entire tail as well as two vertebrae, a result of the serious injuries that she had sustained. Will my kids like it?
